VAK Listening

One of you reads a client's words aloud. The other listens and taps every sensory word they hear: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling or tasting. Your part as the reader

Pick a client together, so you are both on the same story.
Read at a natural pace, as the client would say it. Don't stress the sensory words.
Read it a second time if your partner asks.
Then open the answer together.

Your part as the listener

Choose the same client as the reader.
Listen without reading. Tap a sense each time you hear it.
Decide which sense is strongest.
Open the answer, compare, and reply to the client in their strongest sense.

The five senses

VVisual. Seeing and pictures. Listen for brightness, color, size, distance, clarity, movement.

AAuditory. Sounds and the inner voice. Listen for volume, pitch, tempo, rhythm, where the sound is.

KKinesthetic. Feelings and body. Listen for temperature, weight, pressure, texture, movement, breath.

OOlfactory. Smell.

GGustatory. Taste.

Why this matters

The way a client describes a problem shows how they hold it inside: the picture is too close, the voice too loud, the weight too heavy. Notice the submodalities, the small qualities like bright, loud or heavy. In a session they tell you what can change.
